Counting my blessings

Each morning, I take the time to tell God thank you.  I thank Him for allowing me to travel back and forth to work.  I have about a 30 minute commute via a very busy interstate.  I have learned to slow down.  I was once a speeder and then, I got a commercial driver's license which requires me to have a great driving record.  But, now that I drive on the interstate 5 - 7 days of the week, I've slowed down even more.

Just because I'm careful, doesn't mean everyone else is careful.  Take today for instance.  When I left work it was snowing HARD.  The speed limit was 65/70.  I was driving 60.  I don't like it when the roads are wet and when I can't see as well as I would like.  So, why were some of the geniuses out there tailgating and dodging in and out of traffic?

God keeps me safe and I appreciate that.  He protects me from those who swerve and run off the road.  He protects me from those with road rage.  He's my eyes when I can barely see in front of me.  When I'm driving to work before 7am, he keeps me awake.  He even protects me from the commercial truck drivers who honk their horns at me as I'm minding my business going along the road.  (I must admit that does make me a little uncomfortable.)  And--and this is a big and--he allows me to see the police officers so I have enough time to slow down and avoid getting a ticket (sometimes I run a little behind schedule, but other than that I don't speed.)!

So God, I just want to thank you.  You have granted me favor on the interstate.  I made it home out of the snow and rain.  I saw that one person traveling northbound today had a wreck.  I pray that he/she is okay and I hope that person learns that it is okay to slow down.

My car is stuck!!

Well, well.

Shoulda #1.  Whether I believed the snow was coming or not, I should've parked my car at the top of the hill.

Shoulda #2.  While I was out in the snow yesterday having a good time, I should've been shoveling the path if nobody else was doing it.

Today, Rodney headed out for work.  He went up the hill and started sliding.  He came back down the hill and got stuck near a tree.

It's much colder today than it was yesterday.  What if I have to go to work tomorrow?  (3 snow days is pushing it.)  My road is clear, but what if I can't get out of my yard.

I don't have time to write much because I gotta get outside.

For all of you with flat driveways, I envy you!

Snow Day

Being that I suffered from food poisoning all weekend (potluck at work, ugh!), today was the first day I felt like taking my 3-year-old outside to play in the snow. He's so independent and plays mostly by himself. This was definitely an experience for him. He wanted to go out yesterday or maybe it was Saturday, but my mom told him he needed snow boots. The poor boy was convinced that he had to have snow boots to go out into the snow. He's so sheltered.

Well, I got him outside (with boots, but not snow boots). He was really cautious at first. He checked out the tracks he was making in the snow and talked about how difficult the snow was for walking. As long as he was following me, he was fine. I went up the hill to see if the mail carrier had been brave enough to deliver the mail on Saturday. She hadn't. Emmai followed me up the hill. On the way down, I pushed him into the snow. He seemed a little upset that his mama would be mean enough to push him. I just wanted him to experience the snow as a kid and not the cautious, old man that he was being. After a few moments, he smiled and then he laughed.

My mama threw a snowball at him and encouraged him to make one. Once he got the hang of it, he let her have it. All in all, I think he enjoyed his time outside. I know I did. I took several pictures--one of my favorite things to do. It was good to get out of the house after being in bed for a few days. And, it was even better to hear my little boy laugh!
